The Honourable Rodney MacDonald
Premier of Nova Scotia

First elected to the Legislative Assembly in July 1999 as the MLA for Inverness, he was re-elected over the next seven years. In February 2006, Rodney MacDonald was elected leader of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party and, in June 2006, was elected Premier by way of a general election.
In his political life, Premier MacDonald has Cabinet experience in many portfolios, among them Tourism, Culture & Heritage and Immigration, Health Promotion, as well as the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission and administration of the Property Heritage Act. As Premier, he is also responsible for Inter-Governmental Affairs.
Premier MacDonald attended St. Francis Xavier University, receiving a BSc in Physical Education, and is a professional musician, having performed around Atlantic and Central Canada, the eastern United States and Europe. Atlantica is familiar territory for the Premier, both in his role, and with his fiddle.
