2nd Annual Atlantica Conference Engages Business, Labour, Environmental and Political Leaders

Halifax, NS - The city of Halifax is set to host approximately 500 delegates representing Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Trade, and business, political, and community leaders at this year's Atlantica Conference.

The 2007 conference will be held June 14th-16th in Halifax at the World Trade and Convention Centre. The goal of this year's conference is to leverage the region's assets as an economically-driven, trade-orientated region. Building on the success of last year, the 2007 conference will continue to chart issues, prospects and successes associated with facilitating trade and commerce in the region.

By having all of the key players, including business, community, labour and environmental leaders participate, the Atlantic Provinces Chambers of Commerce (APCC) is aiming to connect our region to the world, and allowing participants to have a voice in how we define ourselves. Broader public debate is expected to ensure that participants are armed with the same level of information and an understanding that Atlantica is good for everyone.

"We are hoping to strengthen the diverse perspective for what growth means to our area," said Stephen Dempsey, APCC Chair. "We want this conference to educate and inform all parties that a stronger, more connected Atlantica is good for everyone."

Atlantica is an economic region encompassing the Atlantic Provinces, the northeastern United States and eastern Quebec. Putting these areas on the international trade map would mean greater access and lower costs for businesses in the region to ship their goods to U.S. and global markets.

The conference will provide interactive discussion forums for participants focusing on the tourism, transportation, and energy sectors.

"Our overall objective of the conference is to create a network of like-minded business leaders from the Atlantic Provinces, eastern Quebec, and the northeastern United States, so that we can enhance our global competitive position," added Dempsey.
