Mark MacDonald is President and Chief Executive Officer of Bay Ferries Limited, Northumberland Ferries Limited and the associated holding company NFL Holdings Ltd.
Mark studied engineering and law at Dalhousie University. He was a partner in Stewart McKelvey from 1986 until January 2003, where his practice concentrated on shipping and transportation, energy and construction. As legal counsel he worked on Sable, Hibernia, Confederation Bridge, Cobequid Pass and various other transportation and energy projects. He was appointed Queens Counsel in 1998.
He served as outside legal advisor to Bay Ferries Limited between 1997 and his joining the companies during which he, as outside legal counsel, worked on the companies' acquisition and financing of North America's first high-speed ferry in 1998 and the new "Cat" ferry in the spring of 2002. He worked with the City of Portland and Province of Nova Scotia in 2006 to bring about introduction of high speed ferry service to Portland, Maine in addition to the company's Bar Harbor high speed service and Bay of Fundy and Prince Edward Island conventional services. He has also led Bay Ferries' very successful introduction of high-speed ferry service to Trinidad and Tobago in partnership with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
