James Frost
Executive Director, Halifax Gateway Council
James (Jim) Frost is Executive Director of the Halifax Gateway Council. He started his career as Director of Marketing with the Halifax-Dartmouth Port Development Commission. He left there to become Vice President of UM Shipping, a short sea shipping service that operated between Halifax and Boston. He was also Marketing Manager for Marine Atlantic, a large Crown-owned ferry service that operated throughout Atlantic Canada. While there, he developed a new cruise product, "Cruising Labrador", using the company's under-utilized capacity.
Since 1995, Jim has owned and operated MariNova Consulting Ltd., which specializes in multi-modal transportation studies.
Jim has a BA from McGill, an MA from Queen's and an MBA from Saint Mary's University (SMU). He teaches history part-time at SMU and is the author of a recently published book, Merchant Princes: Halifax's First Family of Finance, Ships and Steel.
